LSC Presidents Welcome
WELCOME FROM THE LSC PRESIDENT To all my fellow students: 2000-and-mine! What a year it promises to be… for some of us this is our first year; for others they continue to soldier their way through the trenches of the academic battle field and for the rest of us, we are looking forward to being capped by the Chancellor at the end of the year as proud UCT graduates. Where ever you find yourself in the above categories, there ought to be an excitement in you bubbling for the hopes and dreams that come with a new year. The Law Student’s Council for 2009 is made up of a dynamic, driven and talented group of young men and women who are determined to make your year in the faculty pleasantly memorable. Our vision continues to be a council that unashamedly and unequivocally drives the student agenda with excellence, determination and passion. Our mission in 2009 is “to have our presence felt”. By that we mean; we want to represent students with excellence; galvanise students for social change; be visible at all times; be the link between students and staff members and to leave a legacy for many to follow in years to come. Our programme for 2009 seeks to unite the student populace by creating opportunities for students to interact outside of lectures in a relaxed and fun environment. The month of March is our Human Rights Month where we will host activities such as a soccer tournament and a high profile debate. We will continue to have a Speakers Series throughout the year, the Dean’s Speak Easy, various class activities and initiating social responsiveness projects. We will do our best to communicate events and important information to you in due time and effectively. We therefore appeal to you to get involved this year; get your hands dirty with all the programmes and activities that we will offer throughout the year. If we don’t see you in the corridors of Kramer, be sure to visit our offices between 12H00 and 14h00 everyday in level 2. Lusanda Gwayi
